Walks along the Llangollen Canal

The beautiful Llangollen Canal, one of the most popular in Britain, runs from Horseshoe Falls in Denbighshire across Shropshire to the junction with the Shropshire Union Canal in Cheshire. It contains stunning engineering structures, with its first 11 miles now a UNESCO World Heritage Site lying within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

This book explores the canal, its history and varied adjoining countryside. It contains 29 circular walks plus 9 linear walks linked to local buses and a heritage railway and includes the connecting restored scenic Montgomery Canal.

Walk across the famous Pontcysyllte and Chirk aqueducts, through tunnels, past marinas, lift bridges, and locks. Visit lakes and rare raised mosses, country parks, nature reserves, old churches, castles, medieval abbey, and ancient healing well. Enjoy the canal’s tranquillity, flora and wildlife, the passing narrowboats, tea-rooms, canal side and country pubs.
