Walks around Ruabon Mountain, the Clywedog Valley and Hope Mountain

Twenty eight walks exploring a fascinating area of north-east Wales and its important industrial past. This diverse landscape of moorland, undulating pastureland, wooded valleys, forest, reservoirs and historic estate land offers great walking opportunities. Learn about how the area became renowned for its lead mining, limestone quarrying, coal mining and iron-making.


Visit Minera Lead Mines Visitor Centre and Country Park, Bersham Ironworks and Heritage Centre. Walk along one of the most spectacular limestone escarpments in Britain, cross extensive heather moorland, stroll around Waun-y-Llyn Country Park or explore Erddig estate owned by the National Trust.


Follow trails around Llandegla Forest, visit Caergwrle Castle, or walk beside sections of the ancient Wat’s Dyke. Walk along the wooded Clywedog Valley on sections of the waymarked industrial trail.
