A lot has happened since the publication of 3 new guidebooks in 2018 – including a book of family-friendly scenic cycle rides in North Wales which has proved to be very popular. First came a fractured ankle whilst reviewing one of my walks – beware fallen leaves covering wet tree roots – which took 10 months to heal. Then the Covid Pandemic and its resultant lockdowns.

One of the few positives from these recent challenging times has been the reminder of the importance of walking for our mental and physical wellbeing. There is no better way of exploring our wonderful country and coastal scenery, offering delightful sights and sounds of Nature throughout its seasons.

There are new editions of Walks on the Clwydian Range and Walks around Ruabon Mountain, the Clywedog Valley and Hope Mountain.

My sights are now set on finishing my personal challenge of exploring Britain’s network of canals detailed in the 7 volumes of Nicholson’s classic Waterways Guides – a fascinating journey into a hidden world, full of surprises, which began a few years ago and has taken me all over the country. I can highly recommend the canal network for long distance walking trips.

Enjoy your walking.
